Cairn Energy Spuds SNE-5 Appraisal Well Offshore Senegal

Jan-2017: Cairn Energy has commenced drilling of the SNE-5 appraisal well in the SNE oil field offshore Senegal’s Sangomar Deep block. The SNE-5 well will evaluate the extent of the SNE field, complete extended drill stem tests (DST), and place permanent bottom-hole gauges in the upper reservoir unit. The bottom-hole gauges will test connectivity with the SNE-3 and SNE-5 well locations, and will help the asset owners optimise the field development plan prior to submission to the host country government for approval. The SNE-5 and SNE-6 appraisal wells will be drilled with the Stena DrillMAX drillship rig. The joint venture partners include Cairn Energy (operator), and Far Limited.

Tullow Oil Finds More Oil In Kenya’s Lokichar Basin

Jan-2017: Tullow Oil has discovered more oil in the Lokichar basin in Kenya. The Erut-1 well in Block 13T discovered 82 feet (25 m) of net oil pay at a depth of 2297 feet (700 m), with an overall oil column thickness of 328 – 410 feet (100 – 125 m). The well was drilled 10 km north of the Etom field, and logging indicated the presence of recoverable oil. The Erut-1 well also de-risked multiple drilling prospects in the area. Tullow Oil operates Blocks 13T and 10BB with 50% equity, and is partnered by Africa Oil Corporation (25%) and Maersk Oil (25%).

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Signs Two Oil And Gas Exploration Deals

Jan-2017: Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Tarek al-Molla has signed two agreements for petroleum exploration in the Western Desert and the Suez Canal regions. The first deal was signed with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and Sahary for Oil and Gas with a minimum investment of 30 MMUSD. The second deal was signed with the EGPC and the Offshore Shukeir Oil Co. (OSOCO) to carry out operations in the Suez Canal region on behalf of the EGPC.

Tlou Energy Receives Proposal Request to Develop 100MW CBM Project in Botswana

Jan-2017: Tlou Energy has received a detailed Request for Proposal (RFP) from the Government of Botswana to deliver up to 100 MW (mega watts) of coal bed methane (CBM) power from the Lesedi project. The request includes the details of the proposed CBM gas field development plan, the deployment of power generation facilities, and the supply of electricity to the Botswana power grid.

Ophir Energy To Commence Ayame Exploration in May-2017

Jan-2017: UK-listed independent Ophir Energy has progressed plans to drill the deep water Ayame-1 oil exploration well (offshore Cote D’Ivoire). The well is expected to spud in late May-2017, and will target about 240 MMBOE recoverable resources, with an estimated 28% chance of commercial success. Ophir has a 45% operated interest in the licence.

SDX Energy To Acquire Circle Oil’s Egypt and Morocco Petroleum Assets

Jan-2017: SDX Energy announced on 12-Jan-2017 that it had agreed to acquire the Egyptian and Moroccan assets of failed firm Circle Oil. The deal is expected to add material reserves and production at an attractive price. A non-binding heads of terms agreement has been signed, which gives SDX Energy 30 days exclusivity to finalise a deal.
